Mallorca Escape: Scenic Drives, Hidden Coves and Crystal-Clear Waters

Stuttgart to Mallorca – barely two hours in the air, and you’re in a completely different world. Not a long-haul destination, not a marathon flight, yet every time it feels like you’ve properly gotten away.

At Palma airport, we picked up our rental car and drove straight to our finca – home for the next few days. If you want to see Mallorca beyond the hotel strips, you need a car. There’s simply no other way to reach the places that are actually worth it.

We dedicated one day to the Cuevas del Drach – the Dragon Caves on the east coast. The drive alone is worthwhile, as the landscape becomes increasingly rugged and untouched along the way. The caves themselves are impressive: underground lakes, stalactites, and at the end a small concert on the water that sounds cheesier than it actually feels.

Afterwards, we headed to the coast – to the coves of Cala sa Nau and Cala Petita. And here I have to admit something: I always thought that crystal-clear, turquoise water only existed in Thailand or the Caribbean. Mallorca proved me wrong. The water in these coves is so clear you can count the fish from the rocks above. And the best part: not ten flight hours away, but practically on your doorstep.
